I have had a cursory interest in the "3 Clanks of Death" problem, but did not really follow it close. (All my MTH engines are either PS2 or PS3.) Now a friend of mine has a PS1? engine (30-2011-1), which is a 4-4-0 General Steam Engine w/Proto, cataloged in 1997 Volume 1 - W.V.P.P.. This engine does have a White battery.
It is currently running, get 2 clanks, then move the throttle down and back up, and it moves, either Forward or Backward. I know this engine is going to end up in storage for at least a year.
My questions are;
- Is this engine subject to the "3 Clanks of Death" syndrome? AND
- Would this be a good candidate for a BCR ?
Specifically what IS the "3 Clanks of Death"?
I have done a search and haven't found what the "3 Clanks of Death" actually is or means, I assume it is due to a dead battery.
Thanks for any information!
