PS3 upgrade kits will be comming. The diesel kits will be first and the steam will be later. With the steam they are trying to figure out the tether. Trying to put the new draw bar into an old engine will take a lot of work. That's about as much as I know for right now. Maybe Dave Hikel might have more insight to this.

I know in HO MTH is making engines that can accept another manufactures decoder,

There's no provision for adding another decoder to a PS3 engine's electronics.

Actually, both statements are correct.

MTH has made all of their HO locomotives in a -1 version with Protosound 3 electronics that run on conventional DC, DCS or DCC.

They have also cataloged but not yet shipped Proto3E+ locomotives for operation on Marklin HO stud rail with conventional AC, DCS or Marklin DCC.  These are cataloges with a -5 product number.

The SD70ACes, F3s, F7s, FAs, PAs, GP35s and the GE gas turbine have been cataloged in -0 "DCC Ready" versions without Proto 3 electronics but with an NMRA standard plug in for a decoder of the customers choice.
