Hi Folks

I had a problem with my USRA 0-8-9 NKP Cab # 30 MTH part # 20-3149-1, and changed the PS2 Board.

So, I followed all the steps to replace the HW  and after that I installed the Sound SW. (according to DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition).

I downloaded the file p051pf3usra_060426aupd(1).mth from MTH/DCS web site.

I used the DCS Loader V2.30-32Bit to sent it to the loco.

The installatiom  was very good and at the end I heard the characteristic sound.

I turned off the power to track, turned  on again and add the loco into the remote.

I had two problems:

the first one: on the remote screen appeared only the  locomotive address, without the name; I tested to verify if all was well, and seemed so.

The second, I edited the name of the locomotive via the remote and now the locomotive does not moves.

I installed the SW again and now the loco does not run anymore but I can hear all the sounds.

By the way,to confirm that there was no problem with the NKP file I installed other Sound SW:  p071pf3!mik_3rall070416gf2x(1).mth. All the problems described above also occurred with this new file. It seems that it is a MTH issue.

Although the PS2 board is ok, my locomotive now, is not working.

Could someone tell me what is going on, pls?

Thanks in advanced for attention

First, The sound file doesn't retain the name of the loco.  That requires a dealer loader to add the serial data file.  So you will have to add the name.

As far as no motion, is the battery good?  Plays shutdown sounds after power is shut off?

You can do a factory or feature reset via DCS to see if that restores motion.  Or, are you sure the 5 pin motor connector is installed completely?

Can you test it conventionally and do a conventional reset by 1W and 5 Bells?  G

Seems you used a upgrade kit to fix the engine??? hardware HW... SW software??

If you have sound do the easy battery test,,,,, fire up the engine and turn off track power,( not shut down with remote) sounds should continue on for a least 7 seconds. If not the battery is not up to the job.

And as you probably know a charged battery is required   in conventional mode to get the engine out of neutral..

Command mode requires a good battery for  any new settings to stick, ID, edited name , factory reset  etc.

If you used a upgrade kit, the battery that comes with it  will need a charge  . At least  a coup[le of hours min.    A kit doesn't  make all that much difference except as John mentioned a regular board will have the complete engine name where as the upgrade kit only give you an ID and then you name the engine, The name will stick with the engine until a factory reset is done.... name will stick with a feature reset.

No, I´m using a new PS2 board.
Regarding you question about  factory reset, yes.

So, I believe there is a loose connection between the tender and the locomotive.

Anyway, thanks for ypu aattention

When you did the factory reset, did the locomotive name revert to the original name?  Did the engine get removed from the remote after the factory reset?

If not, the factory reset didn't take.

First of all, thanks for the information.

Yes, I´m using only the PS2 board of the upgrade kit, but the battery is the old and it is very good.

Gregg,  Unless the replacement board has the Serial file added with a name by an ASC the name will still be blank.  Even replacement boards may only have a sound file added by MTH and not any serial data.  G
