PS2 Triplex front driver wheel reassembly problem

I  wonder if you are second guessing your work? While I only have this engine in g scale, it does move greatly vertically. Connect the drive shaft, engage the spring assembly in its bracket, and install the pivot screw.

The spring  should be installed first on the truck with its keeper and then pushed into the retainer mounted on the engine right? I can't understand why I'm getting so much slop vertical. I try to run it and it wants to derail very badly? Thanks for your reply and if you can add anything else I would appreciate it.

Is the L shaped pipe at the front sliding up into the shell freely and not binding on smoke unit or shell?  Is hook in the bracket properly so that the wash and spring carry the weight?  G

You would have to take the picture of it assembled too so we can see it.

Does it sit level when on the track? Are the front drivers turning?

I think something easy is being overlooked.

Thank you for all your replies. I think I've got it set up okay and I'm not sure what I did. It is running on Lionel post-war tubular track and it derails on some of my 07 2 switches. From the bottom of the boiler to the top of the driver truck I am getting a vertical measurement of approximately 3/8 of an inch. Is this about right? I did add a little stiffer spring to the rear of the driver truck hook. Any comments to these things?

 The issue I am having now is that the tender smoke is coming from the bottom of the tender and not the stack. Is this a normal issue and how can I correct this? I did add a lot of smoke fluid to it and it does smoke like crazy which is great.

Just blow air down the stack to clear the bubble

If the new spring makes the drivers push the boiler differently than it should, it may be the reason. Do you have the original spring?

•  yeah Joe I've got the spring but the problem is that  it is somewhere on the  basement floor hiding along with all the other stuff I've lost in the last few days.
