Trying to run a PS 2 loco with Z 750 control. They worked with my DCS but the DCS is not at this location all we have is a Z 750 control. I have run them in the past on the 750 but it's been awhile I the loco will not take any of the commands from the 750. This is for a temporary Christmas layout. Not sure what's going on.

Using a variable circuit with a controller in the tiu feed will cause distorted waveforms. Use a fixed circuit or have the brick feed vairanble input directly.
Hobo, how about a little more detail. Does the engine do anything (sound, etc)? Can you test another PS 2 engine? I had a similar problem with a PS2 engine a few years ago.

No reactions through the use of the horn, bell buttons, it does go from forward to neutral and reverse. Just does not react to the commands through the buttons.
If you have a meter - hobby-grade version is fine - measure the DC voltage across the track. It should be a few tenths of a Volt (ideally 0) with the Z750 AC voltage on the track. When you push the W or B button it should go to several volts positive or negative. You could have a defective Z controller.
I was wondering about having a bad controller. Also got to thinking that the engine I brought to this other layout has a low battery. It had been in storage for awhile. Don't know why I did not think of that before. Would that cause it not to respond to the controller?
Since you said it runs just no bell or whistle I would say no,. Does it play shutdown sounds when you turn power off? I am with Stan, may be a defective controller. G
I am starting to think its a bad controller too. Don't know what else it could be.
Gentlemen,
It may very well be a faulty Z750. Might want to use a Z1000 or better however.

Can you try it with an Old Lionel post war transformer?1033 KW ZW anything except the MTH controller?
