Terry,

First, make sure that the engine isn't already in the DCS Remote, perhaps in the Inactive Engine List. If it's not in the remote, try what I've outlined below.

If it sits there dark and silent, and DCS cannot find it, it's possible that its DCS ID# has gotten out of the 1-99 range. In this case, try a Recover Engine.

Make sure that the TIU is ID#1 and then, using the remote:

Menu/System/Engine Setup/Recover Engine

If the engine is recovered, add it to the DCS Remote.

the problem I have been having is when engines are added and that not used for a long period, is that the address seems to be forgotten. Maybe it's a case of adding the engine to different control units like the MTH remote vs. the phone or pad? Maybe it's the old bug of disappearing addresses?

When I go to run an engine like this, when I can't figure out why the controller won't see it, I use the DCS loader to identify what address is stored in the board. Then I can clear that address of any conflict like another engine or especially a consist. I also check and make sure the engine will play full shut down sounds so I know the battery/cap is holding a charge and will take an address change. I will run the engine with just power to make sure it performs correctly.
