Okay I know there are a TON of posts on here about this subject, but it's still a tricky subject and I need some advice (it doesn't help that all the dcs stuff has similar names). What do I need to operate a HO PS3 Engine?

I already have:

- TIU with DCS Remote Control

- MTH-Z750 (power brick only)

- TIU/Barrel Jack Adapter Cable (was using this with the Z750 to run MTH PS2 O gauge trains)

- MTH SD70Ace HO PS3 Engine

I think I understand that for HO I need DC, so the z750 won't work for that. I also think I have to run dc through a the variable in/out to my track. So I think my questions are:

- is there a power brick like the z750 that does the required dc voltage the tiu needs for ho? or do I need a dc transformer? If transformer, do you just connect it and jack it all the way up? Or do I need to set it to a specific voltage?

- I read about the tiu needing power, so I assuming the dc power will only power the trains and not the tiu (so z750 to the acc input on the it?)(I read not to apply ac/dc power to fixed/variable at the same time on a tiu)

Thanks anyone for the help! The TIU/Z750 setup with O-gauge was pretty simple with the barrel jack to fixed in/fixed out to track, this HO setup is throwing me off!

Nicholas,

You'll need a DC power supply. The largest DC supply that MTH has is the Z-DC300 30 Watt DC Transformer for $99.95. Set it, or any other DC supply, to the recommended voltage for the PS3 HO engine. You cannot use AC. Connect to the the Fixed #1 Input.

Correct.

(so z750 to the acc input on the it?)(I read not to apply ac/dc power to fixed/variable at the same time on a tiu)

Use the Z750, connected to the TIU's Aux. Power port, to power the TIU itself.

@Barry, thanks so much for the response and also to all your other responses in this forum. You are a great help to them community. You clarifiedfied all my questions.

Is the recommended voltage per PS3 engine or is there a set standard for O/HO? That being said, does the TIU give you a read out of the track volatage or is a voltage instrument required?

I also wonder if the dc transformer that came with a kato started pack would work, but I think it only outputs 12v. Barry, is there a link to the recommended/compatible mth transformers? I've see it mentioned on here before.

Thanks again, happy Monday everyone.

Nicholas,

Look at the manual that came with your HO engine.

That being said, does the TIU give you a read out of the track volatage or is a voltage instrument required?

No, only the variable channels on the remote give a voltage readout, however, the variable channels don't work with DC voltage, only with AC.

I also wonder if the dc transformer that came with a kato started pack would work, but I think it only outputs 12v.

I have no idea.

Barry, is there a link to the recommended/compatible mth transformers? I've see it mentioned on here before.

Look for a list in the manual that came with your HO engine.
