I just received the LCT O gauge blue comet a truly beautiful engine but it puts out too much smoke. I am a conventional operator and PS3 locos have a potentiometer on the bottom of the tender that according to the manual will turn the smoke off if turned fully counter-clockwise. If I only turn the pot partially counter-clockwise will it dial the smoke output back proportionally or is this just an on/off thing.  Getting this new wireless drawbar apart is a pain so before I disconnect it and try I thought someone else here might have the answer.

Yes, smoke output will be proportionally adjusted by the potentiometer.  You might want to try rolling the loco and tender onto their side if you don't want to disconnect the drawbar.  That drawbar is quite strong and flexible and if you put a towel down before rolling them onto the side, your loco and tender will be protected and you won't have to disconnect them.

I hope this helps.
