I've got several PS3 engines. I also run conventional with Z-1000s. I've noticed that on several of my steam engines, as they run, the volume has automatically dropped. It is usually a good drop in volume as well. I had one, while it ran with the potentiometer set at 1/2 dropped to about a 1/4 volume level then silent as it chugged around. Shut down and restart fixed it. I've seen it on many PS3 engines.

Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

I don't know never heard of the one before but I would definitely try a conventional reset at a low voltage and see if it makes any difference. I would try 1 W and 5B  try at a voltage around  8 to 12 volts from neutral !

Let us know if it makes any difference?

when you power down does the sounds still hold for about 10 seconds or more or does the sound stop immediately when you power off the train from the handle ?

Alan also what is your item number on the engine in question?

Alan

Not sure of item numbers off hand... only have had this happen twice, once with a PS3 2-8-2 and tonight one of my many switchers.

I don't think it is clickity clack....it goes either substantially lower (can still hear chuff, bell, whistle, etc) and tonight, which I've never seen, totally silent. Wouldn't I be hearing clickity clack sounds if that was coming on?

Barry from what I've seen on my engines clickity clack always engages one digit above  25 or actually 26 smph . if I increase the scale smph to 26 as you said 30 seconds later clickity clack engages and if I then decrease the number back to 25 about 30 seconds later clickity clack disengages.

but thank for the info Barry

If a PS-2 engine you may have a bad battery,  So change it, especially if 4 to 5 yo for 8.4V or 6-7 years for 2,4V.  For the PS-3 I guess I would check wiring/speaker maybe volume pot since this is run in conventional.  But clickity clack would make the engine go silent you hear the engine on the track.
