If all I had was a R2LC and a DCDR could I somehow wire them together without having a motherboard?
The DCDR MotorDriverBoard has four pins that connect through a harness to the motherboard. They must then also connect through the motherboard to the R2LC.
So, it I didn't have a motherboard, what four pins on the R2LC correspond to the four pins on the DCDR.

I realize that this would give me motor controls only and no control over sound, couplers, lights, or smoke.
I would also have to wire in a program/run switch.

This would be for a TMCC conversion project and was going through my parts on hand trying to see if I could make something work with what I had.

Thanks

Dave

Cool, thanks. Very helpful.

Next question.
The DCDR-S (odyssey) driver board doesn't seem to work without the special motor with speed sensor. Is there a way bypass or disable this feature so the board can be used with non odyssey motors?

quote:
As your looking at the DCDR, with the white four pin connector on the upper right hand corner and the black molex connector on the bottom this is how it should be wired,

White Connector, first pin reading left to right

goes to pin 18 on R2LC (FWD PWM)

second, pin 19, 20 on R2LC (5vdc)

third, pin 16 on R2LC (Reverse PWM)

forth, pin 19, 20 on R2LC (5vdc)

Black Molex Connector

Upper left corner Grd, Outside Rail
Upper Right corner Power center rail

Bottom two are for motor.

Bringing this topic back to the top because I finally got around to starting my TMCC project.

Bill,

The wiring depicted above does not match the Lionel wiring diagram. In fact it seems like a mirror image.

On the black molex connector:

Upper left is AC center rail, red.

Upper right is AC outer rail, black.

The white connector wires are like this:

Left to right.

Pink, blue, pink, yellow.

Can you confirm if the pink wires are what connect to R2LC pins 19,20 +5v ?

I'd be a little careful about going just on the wire colors.  They should be consistent, but I've seen examples where they were not.  Note that pin 1 on the connector in question should have a square pad on the PCB.  Pin one is away from the edge of the board.

Pins 1 & 3 are the +5V power to the board.  The other two are the PWM speed/direction inputs.  That's what they are on the DCDR as well.

I don't know of a way to run the locomotive without the motor encoder working, my solution would be to stick a DCDR in place of the DCDR-S.
