Question about MTH 20-2521-1 Guilford Rail GP-40 Proto Sound 2

I can't answer your question, but I can further your railroad education just a bit.

EMD diesel locomotive model numbers do not have dashes in them. The locomotive you are asking about is a GP40, not a GP-40.

Round or square charging port...either way i would change the battery before running. BCR's work great as well.

If the batteries are ten years old or more, I would definitely replace them with either new MTH batteries or BCRs.

And thanks Rich, I didn't know about the no dashes in the EMD diesel models either. I know very little about the real trains.

Oh yah..if you put several of these engines together don't us e the term" lashup"..use multi unit otherwise the webmaster will give you a whipping

Not uncommon, nor unusual, as "toy Train Manufacturers" tend to NOT really know all that much about real railroads or real railroading.

Yours is PS2 3 volt..a very robust board..2.4 volt nimh  MTH battery will work well. Yours probably had a nicad in it.
