What...in general...are considered to be the proper type of signs and placement at non-controlled track crossings.  In other words at "non-busy" or rural highway crossings?  I am modeling circa the early 1950's.  Would you use both cross bucks and a stop sign...similar to those in the pic?  Where would you place them?  Tnx,  Matt

Just a few points to remember for the 1950s era:

 

1)  Stop signs where yellow background with black "STOP".

 

2)  The typical railroad crossing signe was yellow with black lettering.

 

3)  Within city areas, the crossing gates where many times manually operated by a guy in a small "crossing gate" tower. These are offered by Weaver models and look fantastic. I have two of them on my layout.

 

4)  Crossing gates where black & white back in the 1950s, not red and white as we see today.
