I have a Lionel 6-85367 Railsounds diner.  When I create a lash-up and activate the ( any command engine) whistle or horn, their is a clunk sound from the dining car.  I have played around with volume settings, but the clunk just gets quieter along with the dialog.

Any ideas would be useful, and appreciated.  It happens with Lionel, Atlas and 3rd rail with TMCC.

Sorry, the SKU you’ve given (6-85367) is for the L&N ‘Hummingbird” four car set. The Legacy StationSounds diner that goes with that is 6-85369; is that the car you mean?

I don’t have this issue with the two Legacy StationSounds diners I have but I have assigned each its own road number and don’t operate them as part of a train despite the manual suggesting that. Also I had to upgrade to the latest version of Legacy to access the car’s features correctly.

Sorry again if I am mistaken about what you are asking - I don’t get the references to Lionel, Atlas and 3rd Rail with TMCC unless you mean the system used to run the engines. The diner is meant to be run via Legacy.

You are correct with the number you gave.  My mistake.  Just pointing out the engines are TMCC and legacy.  Both do the cluck.

Set up as a lash-up, you can get the clunk even if the car is under control with the train link button.  If you use the whistle slider you get the clunk without the whistle.

Operating the car without the lash-up, and on its own is an alternative I might use.    Thanks

Well, looking again at the manual for one the diners I have, it does talk about adding it to a "Train" in terms that might suggest it is part of a lash-up with engines but that can't be accurate. If added to a lash-up I could understand that the whistle/horn commands might be, for want of a better word, confused, although I haven't read about this kind of issue before. I'd try your car under standalone control and see what happens - I'll be interested to know what you find.

This is the sort of issue on which Rudy Railsounds might know the cause and cure. I think that this is his call sign and might be worth a try: @Railsounds

The klunk is intentional so you can tell the diner car is getting commands. train link is designed specifically for accessories like this station sounds diner car or the operating crane car. No klunk in that operating mode.

And if i remember correctly, in this mode, the Train Brake slider will cause diner car brakes to squeak independently of loco braking sounds.

First, thanks Rudy @Railsounds for contributing on this issue. Second, I'll be darned but I have never heard the "clunk" although it makes perfect sense to have a sound that reflects the car getting a command signal. You guyz's hearing must be a lot sharper than mine - time for an ear trumpet I guess.

Thank you all for your help.  It clarifies my issue.
