I have a MTH CN EP 3 Electric locomotive and I cannot seem to get the rear headlight to work . Now the bulb was burned out and I replaced it with a red one until MTH sends me an original replacement.When I had the shell off I tested the bulb at the 2 pin plug end and at  the body contact end and the bulb received power OK and lite fine.Now that it is reassembled the bulb will not come on when I change direction.I checked wiring prior to closing it back up.Whne I push direction button, the panographs  and rear marker lights adjust Ok which suggests the reverse signal is being received.Is there some quirk I am forgetting. I have completed a feature reset and a factory reset.Any help form folks who may have same model would be appreciated.Al B

Thanks Barry. I was just fiddling again and it still is out. I  didnt notice any big glow or even a burn out. I have done a couple  of resets,no improvement. I may take shell off and check all wiring from bulb back to board. The rear marker lights change OK when I change direction.The unit runs great , so I may just have to settle with no rear light. I went through your  complete book looking for a 'magic ' rear light soft key code!

what is FET

A FET is a Field Effect Transistor. On the PS2 board, each FET functions as a switch to turn specific features on and off. There's one FET for each lighting (and other) function on the board.

 

There are separate FETs for the front headlight, rear headlight, front markers, rear markers, and a pair for the ditch lights. The number boards and interior lights may also be controlled by one FET or more than one, depending on the engine.

 

When an engine also has a CV (Constant Voltage) board for lighting, things get a bit more complicated.
