I and other modelers have used "Super Clean," letting the parts soak in it full strength overnight with no harm to the plastic. "Your mileage may vary."

Thanks for the info, what is SUPER CLEAN?....
I tried Strip Magic from Deluxe Materials that was in stock at my hobby shop to remove white lettering from an unpainted black plastic MTH tender and it worked very well. I have used DOT 3 brake fluid for stripping an entire car that had basic oil based enamel on it.
SuperClean is a degreaser. It does strip paint from plastic. I've not had issues with it eating the plastic. Advance Auto parts sells it by the gallon for around $20. There are other brands of degreasers, I do not know if they work as well or without side effects.
Testor's Easy Lift Off ("ELO") - a little pricey, but works great.
Based on advice received on this forum, I tried 91% isopropyl alcohol with very good success. Not sure what the base paint was on the two shells I stripped.
Thanks to all for the advice.....joe
