I would like to reletter a current production MTH caboose. The color is about right, but I would like to remove most of the lettering, RR logo and road number and replace them with decals that I already have. Is there a reliable (and easy) way to remove the lettering without damaging the paint beneath?
I might be willing to pay someone to do this if anyone knows who does this kind of work.

I've had good luck in most instances with either Scotch Brite blue or green pads used very gently. Worse case scenario is you may have to Dullcoat the entire caboose after re-lettering.

I don't think there are any reliable ways as it depends on the base paint but I have had pretty good luck with Poly Scale Easy Lift Off (ELO). Test it on the base paint first. I use a Q tip. It usually takes 5-10 minutes to remove the lettering.

Try nail polish remover on a Q tip, first on a hidden area to test it's compatibility with the main color, then, if no adverse reaction, on the lettering. Seems the baked colors on metal bodies is pretty resistant whereas colors over plastics might not be so hardy....so test with caution
