My friend Chris (LehighValleyRailroad) asked me to convert a Lionel 1999 C-420 to a sound equipped dummy version to run behind his other D&H locomotives.

However, the only problem is that the motors are incredibly difficult to remove from the frame. Lionel made the swivel plate attached to it that makes it almost impossible to remove them completely without taking a dremel to the plate.

Normally, there's a simple screw to attach the plate to the motor, but this one doesn't seem to have one. If anyone has removed the motor from the plate before, either to service the engine or take it apart, advice is more than welcome.

If these are anything like the Dash 9 from that same era, you'll need to remove the bottom plate exposing the axles and gears - There's a Magic screw under there that is preventing you from separating the motor.

Be sure to put the flat spot of the axle bearings in the correct location when re-assembling.
