If I wanted to remove the marker lights, and plate over the holes left behind, to modernize a locomotives look; could I simply cut the wires attached to the marker lights, and cap them off with the appropriate sized wire nuts(wire connectors)? That way I wouldn't have to search for the connections used, when the model was constructed.

 

BTW, can capped off powered wires cause any problems?

For those models that use a plastic plug-in connection to connect the wires running to the marker lights, would simply uncoupling the connection do the trick? Would the powered wires still connected to board, that are still fitted with one half of the plastic connecting component need the openings covered, to prevent current from escaping?
