Jim,

I know you want a easy way to get it done. The best wheel puller I have ever found came from Frank Timko. His puller is made using hardened steel and it's affordable. Not like the cheap converted battery terminal pullers or plumber's tools sold by others. You can contact him at: FTimko@sbcglobal.net  Give him a little extra time to respond.

One of the pullers that is sold by Olsen Toy Train Parts, is nothing more than a Faucet Handle/Compression Sleeve Puller, that is used to fix faucets.  Home Depot sells the tool for $10.48 plus tax, and if you look at the tool from Olsen, and Home Depot or Lowes, or any hardware store, the tool is identical.  Because of the size of the axle on the 248, it won't chew up the hole where the axle rides.  Check it out.  If memory serves me correctly, Olsen charges around $30.
