Replacement Motor for Lionel Polar Express Berkshire Jr. (6-28649) | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Hello!

I am repairing a friends Polar Express with a Series 2 motor (6208616100), which unavailable on Lionel's website, and everywhere else for that matter! The gear on the motor shaft is sheared off leaving behind a pile of metal shavings.

The Lionel website shows the LionChief Berkshire Jr Mabuchi motor (6208653100) as an alternative choice.

Are there any issues replacing the original motor with a motor designed for a LionChief engine? Will it be as powerful as the original conventional motor?

No issues at all, it's the same size motor, most likely the exact same motor.

The only difference between the two are the LionChief motor has a connection plug and chokes in the plug harness.

I can remove the harness and solder locomotive wires directly to motor tabs without any issues?
