Replacing Weaver Trucks

It’s just a really long screw. There’s nothing on the back side.

There are no nuts inside the car, the screw (1"x2-56) cuts its own threads. Just remove the screw and swap the truck (and coupler if it is three-rail) and replace the screw.

Will I need to separate the car frame from the body - is there a nut on the other end of the bolster screw / bolt?

No, and No.

Sure I could take it apart and look at it - but these are older models / plastic - I do not want to remove the screws from the plastic bodies unnecessarily.

Luther,  While you have the car in the cradle you might consider removing the four corner screws allowing you to remove the floor and add some weights inside the car.  If it is a two bay hopper, there are weights designed to fit between the frame and the bays.  John
