MTH Premier U25B #20-2964-1
This Premier PS-2 engine is a replica of the New York Central U25B.
New for 2010, M.T.H. introduced a detailed model of America's first second-generation diesel. Per prototypes, the model replicates the "classic" U25B with its wide windshield and flat-top nose. Cab numbers for the 20-2964-1 were 2500, 2501 & 2506. M.S.R.P. $ 429.95
A non-powered MTH NYC unit was also introduced. This was cab number 2509.
The MTH model is a well detailed replica of the NYC GE U25-B. The model has the latest version of the PS-2 electronics and includes a realistic sound system with speed control, protocouplers, constant directional headlights, horn, bell and yard talk. The MTH engine is well suited for yard and switching operations and can negotiate O-36 curves and turnouts.
The GE U25B was General Electric's first independent entry into the United States domestic Diesel-electric locomotive railroad market for heavy production road locomotives since 1936. From 1940 through 1953, GE participated in a design, production, and marketing consortium (Alco-GE) for diesel-electric locomotives with the American Locomotive Company. Starting in 1956 GE launched its Universal Series of diesel locomotives for the export market. The U25B was the first attempt at the domestic market since its termination of the consortium agreement with Alco.
