As everyone is aware, almost all modern railroads do special paint schemes which honor the railroads they have more or less taken over. In some cases, the 0 gauge locomotive may be replicated with an identical paint scheme and matching graphics. CSX, NS, BNSF, Amtrak, UP as well as other railroads do really cool paint schemes to various locomotives. I recently purchased another addition to my now ever growing collection. An AC6000 CSX which has been done in Chessie livery. The paint is flawless and the graphics are really quite nice. Lionel did a first rate job of this particular locomotive in my opinion.

She also has a really nice sound system which nearly replicates the real AC6000 with all its myriad of sounds. This is a legacy locomotive. Therefore, it has all those really cool features so typical of the Lionel Legacy engines. She is a tad bit longer then the MTH Dash 9 and somewhat heavier. Though not too much. Smoke is phenomenal and looks almost as good, if not better then the MTH smoke system on those premier locomotives. Lighting is nice as well. With ditch, cab, headlight front and rear as well as ground lights. One thing I really like about the look of this locomotive is the graphics, placards and signage. It is very crisp and easily readable. A nice touch.

I ran her today and pulled 7 Lionel auto carriers and one tanker. Which is all I have right now to pull and she looked fabulous. Now the thing is, I cannot find one real picture of this locomotive in reality. I looked, but could not come up with any pictures. So, if anyone does come across the real deal, please do post it for all to see. I sure would love to see this AC6000 in reality with the most famous paint scheme ever devised for a diesel locomotive. (Chessie). Anyway, the details on the locomotive are superb and are pretty much what one would expect for a legacy locomotive. The trucks are super detailed as are the sides of the locomotive with all its various grills.

The cab is really nicely detailed with all those various grab irons and railings. Really first rate in my opinion. Looks great pulling those auto carriers slow around the track.

Anyway, I thought I would share my experience(s) with this new addition to my collection. Again, I am still working to resolve my posting of pictures issues.

Thanks, Pete

Thanks for those pictures. Yes, I can dream, but it sure would be nice to see this AC6000 in Chessie livery for real. Perhaps CSX will do up a modern locomotive in those beautiful colors.

Honestly, to me, this Lionel AC6000 could be the most beautiful locomotive I have ever seen. Not everyone is a Chessie fan and heaven knows I am not implying there are not other paint schemes or locomotives that are just as nice, but she really does stand out on my little meager layout.

Nice to see this one getting some love; it's my favorite diesel among my army of 50+ Chessie locomotives.  Mine is on display, as I have no curves on my layout that can accommodate it. I'd concur that the first time I saw it, I thought it was the most stunning locomotive I'd ever seen.  Everything you mentioned--the paint, the imposing size, the exquisite detail.  The matching I12 caboose is equally nice, and there was another piece of stock (a hopper I believe) that was cataloged a couple of years ago but never produced.

Unfortunately, rumor had it a while back that CSX has no interest in a heritage program, which if true is disappointing.  The notion of seeing fresh Chessie, Family Lines, ACL/SCL, BO/CO/WM paint is pretty exciting.  Really appreciative that Lionel captured a few of those, at least!

I agree that the Chessie theme is perhaps one of the most beautiful paint schemes ever devised for a locomotive. On a modern locomotive it looks really fantastic. I think the fact that the AC6000 is such an imposing locomotive as far as size is concerned is one reason that the Chessie theme might look really cool on it. CSX should do this theme on some of its modern locomotives as a sign of respect for those that served those lines taken over by them. UP and NS do special themes and CSX has done very few themselves, but the Chessie theme remains, in my opinion, the best theme ever for a locomotive.
