As I edge closer to retirement and how much time I'm going to spend with trains, both running and fixing/rehabilitating, I would like to learn how to rivet. Are there any books, videos, websites, whatever that I can look at. I already know about Carl's Toy Trains.

I am very mechanically minded but for some reason I can't seem to visualize what's needed.

Thanks,

Frank

The rivet press is a must for any serious repair work.  Finding an original or a repro press may be difficult and expensive.  When I started out, I bought a Harbor Freight 1 ton arbor press for $35, bored the ram for the 3/8” dies, cross drilled and tapped it for a thumb screw and modified the base to accept the anvils.  You will need a set of dies and anvils but you can get away by selecting just a few pieces.  The arbor press can be to press wheels on.  Another route is to use the Brakemans Riveter, https://www.rivetin.com
