Uhh.... NO!

I am just happy with the performance of my Beep and thought I'd post it here. If somebody posts a good review of a product you have an issue with it? Roll Eyes Confused

I for one, am tired of all the bad reviews of products that have been posted here lately and the lack of good reviews.

The only question I have left is can these thing run on regular 12 volt var. DC or should they be run center rail only with AC?

Since they have DC motors, I'm sure you could run them on DC voltage. You'd probably want to hardwire the motors to the pickups though and remove the reverse unit.

Hey Jake,

Yea ya gotta love the little Beeps.I use mine now as a yard switcher.Since I took this Pic I put in the TMCC mini commander with sound and front and rear electro-couplers.
It also got a little detail work as you can see.
Amazing what you can do with a couple of horns, a bell and some wire for grab rails and a spot of yellow paint.

I have a small layout and i thought itd be a great switcher. how much do the kind of upgrade parts run?

Just ordered the Halloween Beep and matching caboose. RMT is still running its 50% off sale PLUS they have an EXTRA 10% off (Promo Code ten) that ends at 11:59PM Eastern Time tonight (Monday, Feb. 27). Total: $90.94 shipped. Nice!

Think I'll add an Evan Designs blinking LED strobe to the Cab roof.

I hope the figure on the Caboose is not glued down. I want to take him off and put a vampire, wolfman, mummy, or Frankenstein there in its place.

In these two videos an Electric RR Railsounds Commander was added to the Beep:

Here we see a Beep with a flashing LED on the roof:

Cool stuff!

The couplers on my newly acquired Beep are a bit of a headache.  One loosened up to the point where it was too low to successfully couple with any rolling stock (hopefully that one is fixed now.)

The one on the opposite end does the same and cannot be tightened to the right amount to make it swivel properly.   To actually keep the coupler at the right height it has to be tightened to the point where is is totally rigid.  The loop shaped springs that keep the couplers self centered are also finicky things to deal with.

Any suggestions?

DC current will just run through the on board bridge rectifier unaffected (unlike AC which gets converted to DC.) Not really necessary to jump out the reversing unit.  I would avoid unsoldering the motors from the on board electronics and rewiring them directly to run the unit on 3 rail DC current.  It's a job that does not really have to be done.
