Matt,

No state secrets about the location just a little common sense.  How much of your personal information are you willing to put out on the forum?    All the details will be available at the March Meet when you pick up your pass.  The same way it has been years...

If that is not enough detail for you to plan, do a mapquest search on the 3800 block of Lookout Drive, Rockford Illinois.  That will get you close and then look for the yard with the cross bucks (for that day only) .

Well, lets see, Ive put my real name, my email address, my phone number, my actual street address on this forum at one time or another.

Why are you giving them such a hard time?  They open up their home to the public, have a great layout, are super nice guys, and are a real plus for the hobby.

John, my apologies if I come off as giving you guys a hard time. That is not my intent. On my last three trips to Chicago, people ahve been telling me "on your way home, stop by and see the Rockford O Scalers" Everything I am told by people and alot of the positing on this forum even by ROS guys  all give the impression that ROS is open to the public. There seems to be this rumor mill in the Chicago model railroad area that tells visitors "go check out ROS." Now the last time I was there, I was at the March Meet but my layout tour list fell out of the car so I didn't have the address otherwise I would have gone. But every time I go looking for information, there is none anywhere except a facebook page of which I do not have an account. Its a bit irritating to have all these people lead you to believe that ROS is open to the public but in all reality they are not and any attempt at getting a visit is difficult due to lack of available information. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only guy that has experienced this. So I'm just trying to figure out why it seems like such a big public secret. Its bizarre they way people put it to you. Even the latest post on this forum leads people to believe all are welcome but unless you know who to contact or pay the entry to the march meet, you're SOL on the location so thats not really an open house its part of the layout tour.

Hi All,

The ROS layout is available for visits just about anytime by contacting either John Handlogten or Frank McCabe.  We will have business cards available at the March Meet containing all of our contact information for future reference.

Regarding the Open House on March 18, we have to be respectful of the show organizers that suggest one must be registered for the Meet (and receive layout driving directions, etc.)  in order to visit the featured layouts, but that being said, we certainly don't turn anyone away who happens to ring the doorbell on that date, be they local or from out-of-town.

In the meantime, feel free to contact Frank McCabe at: fsm1019@aol.com, with any questions.

Frank McCabe
