Hey everyone! Thanks for having me! Let me start by saying I’m new to this hobby, started with buying my son a ready to run electric set for Christmas. I’ve since bought another set, tons of fastrack, cars, and pulled the trigger on a nice Bluetooth legacy Diesel engine. Well I bought the legacy engine with doing little research on the item, I just seen it had all the bells and whistles so I bought! Well since I got it, I was in awe by the size and detail I actually decided to read the instruction manual. Says don’t run on dc track and to use a transformer. The fastrack I use don’t use a transformer, can I use the fastrack without a transformer and just use my Bluetooth to control? Or do I have to invest in all the legacy control system? I wanna play with the beautiful engine, just scared to ruin it! Thanks for your time!

Welcome Chris!

You need an AC hobby transformer instead of the DC power pack that came with the ready to run set. The transformer that you need is only for track power at a fixed voltage (14-18 volts AC) as you are operating the trains via command control. (remotes and Bluetooth devices).

This can be a Lionel CW-80, an MTH Z-1000 or a Lionel PH-180. You will have to learn how to connect these to a track (not difficult)

There are some features that the full Legacy control base and remote provide that operation via the Bluetooth app will not. It is not absolutely necessary at this point in time to be able to enjoy the engine.
