I run the Post War Lionel. I never had the steam engines as a child so thats my first love.

Elliott introduced me to Alco diesels, and they surely navigate the switches well.

I am looking for a "streamline" that will run on my carpet layout, but limited budget.

Any Ideas for a N00b that just "NEEDS" another engine and my first passenger cars?

p.s. my April fools joke to the woman who had the courage to marry me:

How large are your curves (i.e. 027, 031, 054 etc)? Do you want a streamlined steam locomotive?

If you're looking for something in the "postwar Lionel" style then the Williams 40399 N&W J is both streamlined, a steam locomotive, and a modern reproduction of the postwar Lionel 746 N&W J. It will run on 027 and 031 curves without fuss.

Doood Perfect! (Maybe not what your looking for but Prewar streamliners are cool!.....Dennis Holler If its old and broke, I like it).. those are Sooo Sweeeet. Thanks for the photos

Thanks Rob.... You guys are RockStars!! Thank you. Good luck... oh, the beer will still taste just fine..... SMOKE, loving the smoke....

Thanks BIGBOY2005 Elliott "If your wife gives you grief about your love of trains, and adding to your collections, Just bring her over....... I'll show her how bad it COULD be..."

ya'll are fun folks. See you Saturday at the white bear lake show

If you can find MTH Bantam "J"s you'll have something much more inexpensive and will go well with Lionel's 027 passenger cars - and there's plenty of cheap ones of those: I often see the ones made for "Nabisco" at shows for $10 per car. If you want prewar, look for Lionel Jr. - there's steam as well as diesel, a 2-4-2 Torpedo can be found at shows for less than $75.
