This question may get buried in the Santa Fe RTR set blowout thread elsewhere on OGR.

Has anyone tried to run two of the same powered A units from two separate  RTR sets (in this case Santa Fe Super Chief 6-84719) and succeeded?

That single A unit looks a bit wimpy pulling the original 3 car consist with a few of the add on cars included.

Obviously you have the two hand held remotes to deal with or discard in favor of the inexpensive Lionel orange Universal remote.

I haven't a clue how to do it or if it can be done without crazy extensive modifications.

Thoughts please.

AFIK- Multiple LionChief engines cannot be run in a lash-up and controlled by one remote. I have a pair of BT equipped engines and can only control 1 train at a time with the LC app. I believe the universal remote can be programmed for up to 3 but still only control one at a time. You would need TMCC equipped (LC 2.0 / +) and a command base (1L or Legacy 990) to run multiples.

I do recall a hack with the Menards ATSF diesels where two engines were run in a A-A config. The two remotes were placed back to back and a common lever was created with a wire hanger to operate both throttles at the same time. The trailing engine was set to run in reverse.

A dummy A or B unit is an option as well if you are just going for appearances, not pulling power.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

That Menard lash up you describe was my RTR for Dummies thought w/o the hangar option of having two remotes side by side running one engine forward and one in reverse at the same approximate speed considering the accuracy of one remote to another and my hand eye coordination!

Due to the semi scale or no scale of this engine I was having some difficulty finding a non powered unit that looked OK size wise.

Then Amazon put this set 6-84719 on deep discount for $282 (as of this morning) and I got this idea of a lash up.

found the video

Brilliant!

Now to find the correct gauge wire , a proper bending tool and pliers and start bending.

Thanks RSJB18!

That and I commented on the You Tubers Channel page asking if his friend made the device for other than his friends.

We shall see.
