I was pretty excited to see the tank cars with Freightsounds when I first viewed the new 2018 catalog and thought, "YES!!!! FINALLY... Lionel brought these back!"
HOWEVER, it appears from various sources that these tank cars are NOT a re-run of the highly regarded VisionLine Ethanol tankers w/FreightSounds that came out nearly 8 years ago. And in the Facebook Live show, Dave mentioned these tankers would be very much like the PS-1 boxcars with Freightsounds that came out a couple of years ago. If so, that's disappointing. Many folks posted videos of those boxcars here when they came out, and I think the overall consensus was the sounds were too "klunky" and could have been a lot better.
As a result, I don't plan to pre-order these like I would have if they were a re-run of the VisionLine variety. Instead, I'll wait to see what Lionel delivers and then go from there.

I remember the PS-1 boxcars. I bought one and didn't like the klunky sounds so I returned it to the dealer. Lionel did offer to take them back and they loaded a new sound set. From what I remember, the feedback was the new sounds were better.
@Dave Olson, can you provide any info on which sound set these will come with?
The sound set will be based off of the sounds used in the PS-1, but modified. Less banging, more clickety clacks.

@Dave Olson Any reason why these new cars aren't coming with command control like the VL Reefers? Also, are you guys not doing the command control freightsound cars anymore? (besides the passenger car for the Niagara). I really enjoy the VL reefers but really wish these tank cars had CC or else I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
The cool part of the VL tank cars was they also sensed curves and modified the sounds. I was bummed that the VL Reefers didn't include that feature.

@Dave Olson so no air break sounds like in the VL tank cars I assume?
