Hello, thank you for reading... I have a new Mikado that the Railsounds stops working. It may be associated with location on the layout, need to do more experimenting, etc. The Atlas track appears very clean. After it goes off, I power down the track, sounds return after power is restored to the track. It does not occur with other locos. (Also Legacy).
Any thoughts? Also, is this somewhat common & is there an easier way to restart the sounds without shutting down the power?

For starters clean the track and rollers on the locomotive and tender, this is common if either is dirty.

Seems to be an issue with the Mikados. I have the same issue. I added an extra power drop in the locations where the sound dropped out and it worked better but still had some issues. I then added a battery to the tender and it seemed to fix the issue.
You can try pressing the "R" button to see if the sounds return, if so, then a battery is the best fix.
Strange results. Added new battery, now have no railsounds except background hiss noise, no whistle, bell, chuff, brakes. Responds forw-rev, slows when braking on wheel, no coupler & no response to any touch screen icons.

Hi had that problem with the new mikado, k-4 and my prr sharks.
put the 9volt battery in and the problem went away.
track was ckean and wheels and rollers were all clean.

It sounds like you have lost the connection between the engine and tender. Make sure the infra-red sensors on the drawbar are aligned. Look for loose wires too.

I had the same problem with the K4. I found that by removing the PW Lionel operating generator car from the consist solved the issue. Gremlins are sometimes difficult to isolate.
New update, haven't had a chance to play with the trains for a few days. I reset the loco (after previously adding battery) and it worked perfectly for a while, then lost sounds when I hit a spot that has a weak signal. I pressed R button and it came right back on. Looks like I'm in business, many thanks to everyone, John
