S3 extra parts, what are they? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Just took delivery of a new S3, sn 6-84066. It came with spare traction tires and a coupler for the front, which I understand. It may be a dumb question, but is the U shaped metal piece to extend the tender towards the cab? The other item is a small black box with two screws, almost looks like draft gear pocket but it's not. Thoughts? Thanks. Not mentioned in manual or on line that I could find.

If you are talking about this,

It is the diaphragm for your all-weather cab (between the locomotive cab and the tender). Interestingly enough, in the 20 page manual that comes with this locomotive, it ever mentions this part.
