Well, you sort of narrowed the field by your "at a reasonable price" statement. Sunset/3rd Rail/Golden Gate Depot have issued a number of different Santa Fe SCALE passenger sets, from the Super Chief to the El Capatian. Although I do not model the Santa Fe, I still thought that each of those Santa Fe sets were "reasonably priced", considering their scale fidelity.
On the other hand, if you are NOT able to operate SCALE length passenger cars on your layout (larger than 072 curves), then you might look for any of the various Santa Fe passenger car sets, issued by MTH over the years.
Hopefully....GGD will do another Super Chief in the future.

Scott mentioned some exciting announcements for the fall... I'm thinking Super Chief and North Coast Limited
If those 3rd rail PA's have the plated sides, then I would think that a set of K-line 21" polished aluminum cars would look killer. If you can find a set, they probably wont be cheap. MTH did some 18" plated cars(I think) that would also look awesome. I always thought too bad for Atlas that they didn't do their Cal Z cars in plated plastic or polished aluminum. I still favor all my K-line polished aluminum cars finish over anything else that is out there.
If GGD has any El Cap sets left PAs were know to pull that
oops and thanks for the heads up on address. it is there now.
as to my parameters, they are detailed interior, 18", aluminum cars (not painted), not museum quality. basically on a par with kline units or better. I probably would take the ggd el capitain cars if they were available. all sold out though.
I believe Scott may have an El Capitan set. With the extra baggage cars it will be $3,000. Of curse, you will own them and never have to buy a ticket to ride.
The GGD site does say he's got an 8 car 3 rail set in stock
I just saw some K-Line on eBay for around a hundred bucks a pop. Why not advertise in the "wanted" forum?
Check out this current thread about the Santa Fe All the Way for some good ideas.

'SOO Nut' posted a video and some stills of the newest MTH plated cars that looks terrific.

I know a guy that will sell you a full 12-car GGD El Capitan set. Contact me via email if you are interested and I will put you in touch.
PLEASE ignore the trash below. I refuse to pay the PB ransom.

18"? Lionel did two 7 car sets that meet that criteria. I think they refer to one as the Super Chief and the other the El Cap based on Budd cars. Essentially the same cars with different names and numbers. I made a 9 car set with one seven car set (4, 2, 1) plus the 2 cars from the other set. Interiors are as nice as any made, underbodies are superior to any made as are the trucks. I have upgraded my GGD cars with Lionel trucks. These are generic cars of course while GGD's are actual models of the prototype.

I know you said Aluminum, but.... MTH has a nice Stainless Plated set - O Scale Premier 5-Car 70' Streamlined Passenger Set. These should be counterparts to the stainless plated set I received with my E8 Super Chief Set from 2016. The add-on full vista dome car is stunning to look at.
I'm working on putting up a video run of the set on my YouTube page, however I do have short teaser run in that E8 Santa Fe thread from last week.
Roadname: Santa Fe
Product Item Number: 20-65288
Catalog: ES 2017 Volume 1
Product Line: Premier
Delivery Status: Delivered May 2017

Pete, that is a very interesting idea. I have tried to break-in my GGD Super Chief Set so that it rolled as well as the Lionel cars, but no such luck. I never thought about actually swapping the trucks. I suspect that it will not be an inexpensive upgrade, but anything to get less rolling resistance would be worth it.
Thanks for the tip

Wow. I was blissfully unaware that MTH had produced a plated set. Now I'm thinking . . .

Charlie, Here you can see the comparison on my Empire State Express cars. Lionel trucks on the left, GGD right. I made new mounting plates for the Lionel trucks as the pins are in different locations but, in fact, all you really need to do is drill a new hole. When I did this the price was not bad. Lionel trucks not only have more detail but the springing is actually functional.
This may not be a solution on a lot of cars as the styles differ.

Thank you for the picture Pete. Looks nice, sits a bit lower with more detail. Another project to add to the list.
Edit: Looking at the pictures a little more and it looks like the cars sit at the same height, but the Lionel trucks fill in the space between the skirts a little more.
