I bought this engine online for next to nothing.  It definitely took a nosedive off somebodies layout.  It was missing a stack, had a broken step, a bent step plate, a broken coupler and most important was dead as a doornail.  My idea was to make it a roller if I couldnt save it.  So I replace the coupler, straighten the step plate, add a Weaver stack, and give it a change of railroads  Then I started screwing with the electronics   At first I thought it needed a new board  Then I noticed a little nub of a wire sticking out of the bent truck  I found a wire dangling in the harness   Turned out it was supposed to be connected to that little nub    Soldered it and poof  The engine fired up  Cheapest I ever got a PS3 engine for.  The smoke started coming out of the trucks so I thought it may have blown up but it turns out the Weaver stacks didnt have holes in them  LOL   Drilled a hole and this baby works and smokes great

This is what I bought

That is a great find and a hilarious "I let the magic smoke out" ending.

Must be a Weaver thing - I had some Weaver E-8's for years before I noticed that the Weaver tool-makers had completely skipped adding exhaust stacks for the prime movers within. Just smooth plastic where the stacks should be. Now I find out that Weaver exhaust stacks have no holes. Har.
