MTH finally is shipping the scale wheeled Dash 9s. Two years ago several of us on this forum asked MTH to upgrade this model  (first released in 2001) to fixed pilots and full hand rails and with MTH's vastly improved version of the GE Hi-ad truck MTH uses on AC4400 and ES44 models. These Dash 9s have those improvements as well as a more detailed fuel tank. They are PS3.

There are other improvements we would have liked to make for more road-specific models, but MTH presumably wasn't willing or able to go that far. (Thus I must suffer no gull wing cabs and misplaced ditch lights among other things).

In all events, the scale wheel models are made in small quantities, so anyone who didn't order but might want one shouldn't wait long before trying to find one.

I basically am replacing my older Santa Fes, but that's my road, so to speak. I have a pair of older BNSFs (every now and then I bow to reality and update the layout to 2012) on which I fixed the pilots and made some other detail improvements. I'm hanging onto them, and have been running them with things like my ES44DCs, which have the nicer trucks. You can see the difference, but to me it's not so off-putting that I'm ditching my older Dash 9s.

This photo is of a Dash 9 from 2001 in a consist with an ES44DC released in 2009 or 2010 and having the newer trucks we've been discussing. It's taken from a distance, but maybe it gives the flavor of how the old Dash 9s, especially the shorter trucks, stack up against newer releases:

Well thanks a lot Rich. Your glowing review, combined with my existing soft spot for Dash 9s and I caved.

Bought a BNSF powered one and I have an NS dummy on order. The powered one came today. I got the swing pilot version as I've got some 054s that it needs to run on, but the detail is a major upgrade from the original PS2 version. My only real issue is that its not very loud... I wish I could turn the sound up twice as loud as it is. With the "Great Pumpkin":

Still keeping my original NS dash 9... it was the first engine I ever bought with my own money.... dont think I could ever let it go.
