Right now my Cab2 and base are at Lionel to be repaired. In the meantime I have been using my Cab1 with TMCC to run my layout. My son has found it much easier to use then the Cab2. Being only 3 though he tends to want to run the trains at warp speed. I know a max speed can be set, how would I do that with my Cab1?

Address engine, aka ENG 23 (assuming engine ID is 23)
Press set (bottom of controller under the hidden panel at base), headlight should flash.
Use throttle to get to desired speed.
Hit Boost to lock in.
To clear, address engine and hold down Set for one second and then Boost for one second. This should clear the speed limit.
Does this work will all TMCC locomotives, or only Legacy locomotives? And will the locomotive always remember this setting?
Those were the instructions for TMCC. The engine will hold the setting until you clear it.
Thank you. I'll have to do this to mine to keep the little ones from running off of the track.

Sorry it didn't work. These aren't my suggestions. It's what's documented in the owners manuals for the locomotives. e.g. S-2 Electric page 23
SETTING THE MAXIMUM SPEED
You may use your CAB-1 Remote Controller to set your locomotive’s maximum speed. This will prevent locomotives from derailing as a result of excessive speed.
With the Command reverse unit switch in the RUN position, address your locomotive by pressing ENG and entering the ID#.
Press SET on the CAB-1 Remote Controller. The headlight will flash.
Get your locomotive moving at your desired maximum speed.
Press BOOST.
The maximum speed has been set. To clear this setting, press SET and then BOOST, holding each button for one second.
SETTING THE MINIMUM SPEED
You may use your CAB-1 Remote Controller to set your locomotive’s minimum, or stall, speed.
With the Command reverse unit switch in the RUN position, address your locomotive by pressing ENG and entering the ID#.
Press SET on the CAB-1 Remote Controller. The headlight will flash.
Get your locomotive moving at your desired minimum speed.
Press SET again. The locomotive will stop.
The next time you throttle up, your locomotive will start at the speed you set. To clear this setting, press SET twice, holding the button for one second each time.
Since the speed settings are stored in the R2LC, it's hard to believe the ERR boards would not work that way, they use the same R2LC-C08 as many standard TMCC locomotives.
jd,
You can also check out the Lionel Legacy educational videos on line, I believe the Tech instructor goes over it in the video also. A definite cool control when you have small children. Not sure but knowing Rich, the OGR guide to TMCC probably has it on video also.

Never tried to do that on the MiniCommander, I'll have to try it.
