Those are not really "turnbuckles". Those are part of the spring-loaded retention system that keeps the vestibule tight against the all weather cab, for crew access to the tender.
That's one that I would like to see run again. Its sister was one of the great excursion locomotives of the 1950's-60's, and ended up scrapped. I have a print of #5632 hanging on the wall in the family room.
Very nice to see the 5631 being so well cared for. The last time I saw her on Burlington property, she was in a dead line at Clyde, Nov. 1958. She had one fantrip outing in 1957, made a high speed (no kidding, 90 mph) run to Savannah, Il, which resulted in a piece of coal leaving the tender and cracking a pane of glass on the trailing dome car. That was her last run under steam. She also kept ahead of the Twin Cities Zephyr all the way!
