I took a MTH flat car that was 13" long and removed 4" from the middle using a chop saw.
Still need to clean it up a little but will let the glue dry over night.

Yes . You also got my attention. I have a few sidings that I could use shorter cars.
When gluing did you use a support of any kind under the car?

I could have but since this car has a plastic support structure I used that. I could have cut the steel plate which I removed from under the car and refitted but I added a plastic strip inside the channel you see below instead. This strip bridges each side of the cut. I did not put the steel plate back in but could always do so if I choose.

Cut with little pressure and stop midway to let plastic cool down.
Why didn't you just use a 027 flat car. 10 3/4 length.
I've had this car for 10 years and never used it since it's too long.
Also this one is better built then those cars which have riveted trucks.
