I have 5 TIU's &  9 AIU's.  I've been happily operating with this 'old' version.  But it was suggested that I should upgrade to the latest.  I do NOT use Wi-Fi or even own a modern cell phone.... nor do I intend to.

So my Q to this forum is this:  Should I upgrade or not?  What are the +'s & -'s?

As long as you have no operating issues and you're perfectly happy with the performance, I'd just run trains.   There's no burning reason you have to have the latest and greatest.

I agree.  It's only an upgrade if it provides you with some usable benefit.  If your happy and all is well, why take a chance and poke the tiger.

John,

Don't fix stuff that ain't broke!

Just for the record, it is "broke".

There are at least 3-4 bugs, of which I have direct knowledge, that were fixed between 4.3 and 6.1. However, I'm not getting into a debate about how it doesn't matter if Phil doesn't see the bugs at present. Nor am I going to detail those bugs here, other than to say that they are operation-affecting.

One should, however, be aware that if one of these bugs does surface down the road, that it's unlikely that MTH is still providing support for software that was released more than 4 years ago. I expect that MTH's remedy (and it would be mine, as well) would be to advise updating to the latest DCS release and then seeing if the problem persists.

RJT, I can say this: Barry's books detail it every step of the way. I just updated a WIFI unit and a friends TIU and remote with absolutely no problem. And this is after having Marty do it at the 2016 Spring York meeting and taking a ribbing from Barry about doing it myself. As Usual he was right. (Don't you just hate it when they are always right. LOL) And it was easy just as he said.

Rick,

The MTH web site does not show the WiFi book in stock. Will they be getting more or is it under revision?

There are two different books. Both are always in stock. eBook versions are downloaded from MTH's Kibo/Shopatron website and softcover books are fulfilled by Amazon.

The DCS Companion 3rd Edition discusses DCS from the perspective of the DCS Remote, and only briefly discusses the partially-featured Standard version of the DCS App. It is available here.

The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition discusses DCS from the perspective of the full-featured Premium version of the DCS App, and only does not discuss the DCS Remote operation at all. It is available here.

Each of the 4 web pages, eBook and softcover book, has a "Buy"link mid-way down its page.
