I'm not sure what this has to do with "hi rail, 3 rail", or even trains in general. Seems this discussion should be in a "crew lounge", or miscellaneous type of forum...

My spouse is my own personal computer tech/guru. She started out as a programmer with an IBM 370, which took up a large room with associated tape drives, card readers, and a large chain-type printer way back in 1970. Languages then were BAL, COBAL and FORTRAN. She went on to become a high-level systems programmer and ultimately project manager (Sigma 6, etc.) She has an IQ greater than 150 (mine is a mere 136) and was making $350K before she retired. She went on to do contract project work at $100-$125 an hour for a few years. She has helped me with my HP laptop and my Galaxy S5, but I learned on my own to use Cloud to reset my phone to its default mode while saving my contacts and other data. I have successfully used both TMCC, Legacy and "Lite" DCS, but now run strictly conventional standard gauge and analog original LGB.
Because of how my screen loads I seldom wait to look to check catagory anymore. I don't want to be locked into one catagory anyhow. I really only check to make sure I don't need to tip toe less I stir up the old scale vs toy family fued. Most folks just pick and choose from the recent column anyhow.
Being in the right catagory may help for searches or narrowing reading into a niche, but it does little else imo. Hi rail has become the closest thing we have to a "catch all" really. I bet it would be more accurate with the menu's style changed to a spread on that; I think highrail is the fallback.
How folks connect to the forum is definitely part of the mix here. Not exactly trains, but lets see you read or post here on without a personal computing device of some type.
Why would who and how be important? Who knows maybe Arnold is looking to maximize his forum efficiency or is just trying to grasp why we might choose what we do in an OS or likes watching trends.
I bet 90% of folk never really noticed where this topic was placed, or cared much.
That said, the topic would intuatively be a forum tech topic I'd think.
Iphone XR almost exclusively. Then I can do things like take a picture of my layout and easily post it.
I do post from my laptop if I need a break from work. Do whatever works for you.
I have both an iPhone and a laptop. I mostly use my laptop and only use my phone when not at home.
I listen to all of my music on Edison Cylinders.
I use my iPhone to take pictures and I use it to post them on this forum because I don't want to save pictures to my computer. The forum is not always kind to us phone posters and the annoying pop up "subscribe" window forces one to scroll up to close it. Every. Single. Time. Also the way that my posts with pictures format on the phone looks completely different and flawed with sentences crammed to the side of photographs willy -nilly.
I don't support Apple or iPhone. Their throttling of phones and batteries as well as other questionable business practices are finally beginning to be resisted by their customers

Adriatic has raised my motivation for starting this topic, which I will now address. Why we do what we do interests me. This also may be helpful, especially to our new Forum members, regarding what this Forum may do for them if they remain active in it.
Please keep in mind that I just completed my Rookie season as a member of this Forum, so I also still have a lot to learn about it.
I posted this topic, like most of my posts on the Forum, simply because the idea popped into my head, and I got excited about sharing it. I did not give much thought regarding where to post it. The O Gauge/Hi Rail Forum tends to be my default Forum, but I have also started many posts under Scenery, LionChief and MTH.
Running trains is often when Forum topics occur to me. I am almost always alone, so it's great to share things with others who have a common interest. I get the sense that most of us, most of the time, are alone when we do things with our trains, so this on line model train community we have is very nice.
I have learned to do a Search before I start a topic to see if something similar has been done lately. If so, I think it best to post my thoughts under the prior topic instead of starting a new one. I get excited if I feel my idea for a new topic is unique or quite different, might have wide appeal to model railroaders, has the potential of being helpful to others, promotes this Forum and the hobby, promotes connection among us, and/or touches on something deep or important, like how model trains can lead to bonding between parent and child.
What I am about to say is a cliche, but it's what I have been thinking while writing this, so I will share it. This Forum has been the greatest thing since sliced bread regarding my involvement in model railroading for the past year. Arnold

If my tone in the above comments sounds serious, the paradox is that I love to be lighthearted, and read others lighthearted remarks, on this Forum. Arnold
My last PCs were laptops so the portability was there; just not pocket sized.. The battery life and capabilities twice that of the phone.
The screen size an advantage mentioned. But what hasn't been is the keyboard (Spellwreck aside even).
I can hit 30-40wpm without mistakes on a keyboard casually. There's almost no way you're going to hit that speed on touch screens. You'd stand a better chance voice typing.
Hi A. This is a very easy query. The sole purpose of a mobile phone (IMHO) is to send and/or receive audio messages. My computer does everything else I need very efficiently. Thanks.
My Best Regards
Tommy
