I am feeling a little nostalgic and after about 25 years from burning it out, I want to replace the smoke unit in my first locomotive. It is the basic die cast 2-4-2 found in many MPC starter sets. Any one know where i can locate a replacement smoke unit, or at least what the part number is for one?

Here's one from the PA Flyer set from some time back. Does yours look like that? If not, what is the specific locomotive cab number?

John, I never opened it up to see what it looks like. I will in the next day or so and see if it matches your diagram. The number on the loco is 8213.
According to the Lionel Service Document for your locomotive, that's the part you need.
That is also my first Lionel engine from the NYC Flyer set. Mine caught on fire after I stoked up the smoke unit, and I pitched it. I keep meaning to get a replacement because she was my first love and what got me hooked on O gauge. Little smokey-you can come back home...

And Bill probably has it in stock.
I definitely recommend Boxcar Bill for this part. I bought the exact same smoke unit from him because my old one burned out and it works great! He mailed it to me fast and I received it the next day. It is also the best price around!

Bill, If you have the part in stock I would love to order it from you. Please send me an email to gcatanese773@hotmail.com letting me know how much and how to get you payment.
Be sure to understand the part number Bill provided is not a direct replacement. If you wire it the sames as the original, the LED will pop and the heater will burn out real quick. The new 4-4-2 smoke unit is meant to be wired across the motor brushes, and not track voltage. You can go this route, or if you want the direct replacement and Bill is out of stock, I have a new one.
