I, too, recently visited Smoke Stack Hobbies, BEFORE I saw the above notice and was
sorry to see they were going out of business. Stock does look considerably depleted,
so the word must have gotten out. By coincidence, I just managed to buy a couple
of the kits they once offered, for a couple of railroad bridges, passing up one, an under track truss, off eBay. I have long looked for a covered bridge kit they offered for the Black Mill Bridge near Lancaster, and understand they offered some other railroad related kits, too. Don't know if they offered a kit for the Black Mill building itself, which is now under restoration and much improved over what it was when I first visited it, and their shop, in the late 1970's. This area, Fairfield County, has a lot of covered bridges, and Black Mill Bridge, before it was fairly recently closed to traffic, was a "kissing bridge", that I've seen couples slow their cars to kiss while driving through it, and is a picturesque bridge over a falls and deep gorge, and with the mill, makes a park like setting.
I hate to see these local shops go...while you can find more on the internet, you have
to buy a lot of it to make sense, due to shipping costs. And you can't just drive over
and run in for a tube of glue and some styrene. Takes a while for it to float in, if they
get the order right.....had errors lately.
