I am always surprised when after several attempts, I stumble upon a new method that works.
Usually after I  accidentally destroy a few expensive parts in the process.

Anyway, finally completed both my K-line S-2 Err DC Commander upgrade with Led lights and electro couplers. Was a bit tricky due to tight clearances but using some 1/8" polycarbonate, some 1/16" shims and some #2 pan heads, I had a fun switcher that goes real smooth and slow.

My Lionel NW-2 AC Commander was a bit trickier.
I ended up replace the drive wheels and axles because it was botched when it was assembled way back when. A great deal on a Harbor Freight press and a few fabricated fixtures and I was on my way to success.  Considered buying the cups etc.and also the brakeman tool.
But why bother? I am not a repairman.
a general automatic center punch with replaceable tips, a bench grinder and a little thought and I have done the sliding shoe repair for a lot less.
And the cross swagger turned out to not be necessary.
One I removed the truck sides by dare fully filling with an ignition file, I just drilled and tapped the center post. Changing traction tires will be a lot easier in the future.

After all that, it was still not running no where near as nice as the Dc can S-2. Jerky and too fast. Poor response and my K-line GG1 was taking som impact abuse. Lol.
Idiot me, finally took it off the track.

When back to the basics and remembered the best and most common advice that I hear on the forum.
Did a complete reset for the feature codes and sure enough. Voila.
She is running better than the S-2 and the electro couplers were a direct swap pout with no modifications.

Feeling pretty happy with myself.
Recently switched to JTs Mega Steam.
Running my K-line 0-4-0 conventional upstairs on my yet to be dismantled Christmas layout, and I was enjoying watching the now billowing smoke in the morning sun.
Having melted my previous K-line Caboose with bits spitting Seuthe smoke unit, I picked up a replacement on the bay. Thinking about adding a resistor.
That's when I made my discovery.
I accidentally filled it to the top with the Drooper that comes with Mega Steam.
I sucked out about an 1/8" to expose the metal heater element.
Than I ran the 0-4-0 with a set of V & TR passenger cars and the overfilled caboose.
Lo and behold. It smoked better than it ever did. And no spitting.
Plus the excess liquid kept the smoke unit cool.
After several minutes, it was still smoking like crazy but the unit was still cool enough to touch.
I thing that most people and myself included have been putting to little smoke fluid in these, thinking that too much is what caused the spitting.

And it could be a total fluke. I will still put a resister in it before I run it on my Command layout, but will try it "overfilled" and observe the results.
