Lionel uses an odd looking square back red/green LED for the markers on the Legacy GP-7/9, and the lighting boards are unavailable. Does anyone have a source for a similar LED? Lionel must have gotten them from someplace. Has anyone replaced these?

I can't find a picture of the part you are looking for but Lumex makes LEDs that fit that description. They are the source for many of the 2mm LEDs used in markers.

Which locomotive do you have, John? Lionel seems to stock the LED boards for both the Legacy GP-7 and GP-9 units I have researched.

There is only one red/green one in either of those lists, and it's a round base. I've heard comments here before about the ones that Lionel uses being somewhat oddball, but this is the first time I've had occasion to have to replace them.

Hmm... I went to Lionel to look for the number boards and they were listed as unavailable. This is for 6-28587 and the part number for the lighting board is 620-8561-116.
Do you have a link to the ones that they stock? A search on that part number specifically also comes up with one link and also unavailable.

I can't really see the bulb shape, but this vendor has a 2 x 5mm bi-color led.
Lionel just got back to me. They apparently scrounged up one of the lighting boards (doubtless from a recycled engine where other parts have come from), and I now have the board coming. If I can figure an LED that fits to repair the existing board, I'll have the only spare for these in captivity.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
This is one of the Legacy GP-7's that I saw that had the LED boards available, but these locos are seemingly a different design. Perhaps the boards use similar LED's.

It is a different part number, but Lionel came through with their "last" part, so I'll have the board to stick into this one. One wonders why they'd have different boards in a similar vintage GP-7, but that's another question.
