This is the powered B unit from the recent (2018 release) Lionel Conrail ABBA set.

It addresses fine and has great sounds. It looks like it is running fine (It went 18 minutes without issues before I powered down). However, sometime it doesn't run at all, or, it just sputters. When you turn it over, one can hear a loose piece inside. Could there be a loose part that depending on where it falls cause it to run erratically or not at all?

The reason I ask is that I am terrible with train repair, both in troubleshooting and actual repairing.......I am always nervous even to take off the shell......I plan on doing this over the weekend, just to see what is loose.

As you can see, no issue today......I am wondering if I moved whatever is loose into a position where it isn't causing any trouble.

I don't know but maybe it is the antenna that came loose and banging around. Might want to wait and check it as to not short anything out while running it.  Don't know how that one is attached but could be a easy fix.

Don’t think there is an antenna on MTH.  I believe signal goes through rails unlike Legacy which uses radio, thus antenna.

Steve, good luck opening the unit.  Put scrubs on prior, or stay in Holiday Inn Express the night before surgery.  Good luck, see you at breakfast next October after you figure out the dates.
