the spot on the lower right hand corner of my legacy cab2 had two parallel horizontal lines instead of speed steps and of course the engine would not move.  Reprogramed the engine and all was ok.  What would cause that to happen.  I have never seen that before.  Also I get no difference in smoke output with my two newest legacy engines, santa fe northern and c&o 2-10-4.  I get great out put on the lowest setting but the same on the highest where it is way different on my fef and milwaukee s3.  Is the output the product of the new smoke unit MR explains on his smoke video.

My Cab-2 had the problem with direction switch.  When I rolled it forward or backward it did not change the direction of the locomotive.

However, I was able to make it work by applying a slight leftward pressure when rolling forward or back and it works like a charm.  Probably not supposed to work that way but.....

thanks marty, I will try that tomorrow night, anything to avoid a trip to lionel as I imagine I will have to pay the entire bill now as it is over a year old.  do you know the number to call for a return ra# and address.

Its too bad there could not be a permanent post on this item with that info always to see.  Hint Mr. webmaster.

I have had some problems with my Legacy set, I contacted Lionel and they issued an RA# for this and a separate RA# for two Challengers. I was instructed to send all in for service. My Legacy system would no longer charge the batteries and when I installed alkaline batteries it would operate Legacy engines fine. When I tried operating a TMCC engine it,the engine, would for short times lose the motor sound. I than used the TMCC remote to run the same engine and there was no interruption to the sound. Go figure!

Sounds like your switch is bad. After a while, it will probably fail.

On my CAB-2, you have to press in on the rocker switch to change direction. Rolling it upwards is the boost, and rolling it downwards is the brake.  I believe that this is the normal action for this switch.

My cab 2 is fixed.  After discussing the shot of air in the direction switch I tried this and it worked fantastic.  I have a big can of plastic compatable no residue electronic cleaner that works great for cleaning dirty dusty engines.  I just spray them and as it drys it evaporates the residues on engines, especially smoke fluid oil.

I shot some in the cracks around the direction brake switch and rotated and pushed while the fluid was drying and presto it now works perfect.  Try it and hopefully you get the same results I did.  you can get it at any auto store or our walmart has it in the automotive section.  It is a contact cleaner.
