G'day all

I'm doing some research and trying to establish when the "Susie - Q" first started popping up on the Susquehanna Boxcars.

In one photo there's a deteriorated woodside boxcar which has me baffled as to the era of the "Susie - Q" logo/marketing.

Can someone assist me with some factual historical answers please.

Cheers

Al

Al:

In 1964, the NYS&W purchased a group of 40 foot box cars from the Lehigh Valley to replace box cars which the railroad had earlier sold to the Monon. The "Ship with Susie-Q" scheme debuted on a number of these former LV cars shortly after their acquisition so this would be livery dating from the mid-1960s.

I hope this helps.

Thanks mate

Glad you responded... The era I'm working on is between for box cars is 1925 to 1957. This would have been a costly mistake for me.

I much appreciate your response and thanks again for the info...

Cheers

Al
