Good morning Switcher Saturday crew!

Switcher Saturday is a weekly thread celebrating the smaller locomotives that do the big work of railroading. From modern tourist lines and regional operators to class 1 lines with road switchers,  back to original steam locomotives, gasoline powered machines, electric "juice jacks" its all fair game here, if its a machine used to sort railcars, its welcome here.   As always we are open to all scales and gauges.

Now for me, my latest Switcher is mth made Pittsburgh Steelers RS-3.  Since this is likely the last game for my one of my favorite players,  I had to showcase this machine today.

So please show off your Switchers!  Pictures,  videos, vignettes and stories wanted 🙂.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning SWSAT fans.

I was the second vehicle back when we got caught by a Penn Central switching crew working a cut of covered hoppers.  They almost cleared the crossing before they stopped and started backing the cars into a siding.  The driver in front of me was not at all happy.  I just put the truck in park, rolled down my window and enjoyed the show

When your Yardmaster heads to Maine to visit his daughter and grandson, he always brings his camera to photograph ME railroads.  He got lucky today, getting a shot of a MEC plow extra powered by GP7 no. 562.

I hear some wise guy from a warm climate saying, “it looks kind of green, where’s the snow”?  Well, don’t forget this is Maine!  Early Fall or late Spring snow isn’t uncommon.  The extra is headed North due to a forecasted storm.

Larry. Thank you. It's nice to be back.

Johan

Hi everyone, well its a really poor day here in central Texas, foggy and misty rain and cold.  It was 26 deg this morning when I got up and that is COLD for this part of the world.  Larry thanks for the encouraging words (as the old song says) and I hope I can come up to your expectations   I had hoped to have something from a train show , first one in nearly 2 years, but it got delayed a week...so maybe next week.  In the meantime, I was perusing through some Marx sets under the train table and I came accross set  #7822.  Not sure about what its contents were, I dug it out and opened it up and found a perfect SwSat opportunity.  So here is that set.

Here is the box end, showing the Marx designation #7822 and the fact that it contains..."one only electric train"

Marx Set 7822 side cover

The top of the box, showing that its a "Diesel Type" train and that it has "remote control"

Marx Set 7822 box cover

Note in typical Marx fashion to save space, there is a flat car imaginatively packed under the hopper car.

Marx Set 7822 inside of box

An here is the proud diesel engine leading the consist.  The Marx #588 GE-70Ton switcher in black and white.

Marx Set 7822 NYC engine

Here is the full consist including (of course) the little, RED, NYC caboose.

Marx Set 7822 consist

This set, based on the years the black/white NYC GE 70 ton engine was built, 1958-1962, is ready for Social Security (nearly 65 years old) yet despite the condition of the box the trains look like new.  Even the flat car railings, which are notoriously hard to find intact, were present and carefully removed and packed flat on the deck to prevent damage or loss.  My speculation is that this is one of those "Christmas Tree" sets, purchased as a gift for some young person and carefully taken out and put around the tree then carefully packed away for the next year.  The box took some hits /wear but the trains survived without nary a scratch.

Oh yes, since its SwSat that is my  Williams Southern 44 tonner in the background.

Well that's it for me on this bad weather Saturday.  Hope everyone else is having better weather.

Don

Don McErlean, it’s great to see you back this wintry Saturday and as your normal, you’ve done it one more time, bringing back a great Marx train set, full of  memories, I like that set, it’s a crowd pleaser. RayKay, that’s a beautiful steamer and nice picture of a neat layout, looks like S Gauge? The picture of the Seaboard diesel is my friend Rich Hane, on Farmerjohns beautiful layout. Well Larry, thank you for the complements.  It means a lot coming from someone as accomplished as you as I always love the pictures of your layout.  Looking forward to seeing you and the layout this summer at one of the two conventions in Nashville!  BarGP7 let me echo the post of Coach Joe, your blending of the scene in the for ground with the background photo is exceptional.  It gives the entire scene an outstanding "real" look.  Great job!

Johan, I've said it before but I must say it again.  The way you seamlessly blend your photography into your scenery as backdrops is so realistic it speaks volumes to your skills as a photographer and a modeler.

Joe. Thanks a lot. The construction of the home layout has been very interesting anyway, because now there are a lot of new things involved that I haven’t tried before. The modules are made of aluminum by my friend Juha. Also, he makes me led the lighting above the track.

Don. Thank you. I think the landscaping of the layout is definitely the most comfortable work step when thinking about the whole.
