Hi everyone, well its a really poor day here in central Texas, foggy and misty rain and cold. It was 26 deg this morning when I got up and that is COLD for this part of the world. Larry thanks for the encouraging words (as the old song says) and I hope I can come up to your expectations I had hoped to have something from a train show , first one in nearly 2 years, but it got delayed a week...so maybe next week. In the meantime, I was perusing through some Marx sets under the train table and I came accross set #7822. Not sure about what its contents were, I dug it out and opened it up and found a perfect SwSat opportunity. So here is that set.
Here is the box end, showing the Marx designation #7822 and the fact that it contains..."one only electric train"
The top of the box, showing that its a "Diesel Type" train and that it has "remote control"
Note in typical Marx fashion to save space, there is a flat car imaginatively packed under the hopper car.
An here is the proud diesel engine leading the consist. The Marx #588 GE-70Ton switcher in black and white.
Here is the full consist including (of course) the little, RED, NYC caboose.
This set, based on the years the black/white NYC GE 70 ton engine was built, 1958-1962, is ready for Social Security (nearly 65 years old) yet despite the condition of the box the trains look like new. Even the flat car railings, which are notoriously hard to find intact, were present and carefully removed and packed flat on the deck to prevent damage or loss. My speculation is that this is one of those "Christmas Tree" sets, purchased as a gift for some young person and carefully taken out and put around the tree then carefully packed away for the next year. The box took some hits /wear but the trains survived without nary a scratch.
Oh yes, since its SwSat that is my Williams Southern 44 tonner in the background.
Well that's it for me on this bad weather Saturday. Hope everyone else is having better weather.
