It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc., so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT you should really go take a look, it was a ton of fun!

This week at the Murnane house...
PRR #561 is pulling out of the "Richmond, Chesapeake, Hudson Yard" (RiCHY) - yes, I think I've named my new switching yard! A combination of cities/locales/lines where most of my stuff originates from (Virginia up to NYC).

Also...
The past couple of weeks I've mentioned that we're coming up on our two year Switcher Saturday anniversary. Last week I thought it was going to be this week, but the real date is closer to next Saturday,
so next Saturday will be the offical two year anniversary edition of Switcher Saturday.

MNCW/Tom had a good idea for the anniversary edition of Switcher Saturday which I'm hoping some folks can try: If you'd like to you should try
to have their posts be "loosely" tied to something railroad related happening anytime in February or mentioning some historic event that is tied to a real
or fake railroad you like or model, like:
example 1. Today in History - February 28 | Library of Congress
example 2. If someone follows the B&O, did you know that the B & O Railroad...
example 3. On February 28, 1827, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad became the first U.S. railway chartered for the commercial transportation of freight and passengers. Investors hoped that a railroad would allow Baltimore, the second largest U.S. city at that time, to successfully compete with New York for western trade. New Yorkers were profiting from easy access to the Midwest via the Erie Canal.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and gets a chance to post some switcher stuff here!

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Good morning.  To start, here's another beauty from Atlas.  (I think Mike may have had this in his post last week.)

But the real excitement for me today is this video I thought you'd find interesting.  My daughter attends school in Savannah, GA, and took this video of a switcher tandem.  The railroad, I'm pretty certain, is the Golden Isles Terminal Wharf RR, part of the G&W group.  It's a real short-line, 6 miles of trackage.  The G&I connects various industries --  Building Products, Bulk Freight, Chemicals, Food and Feed Products, Machinery, Metals, Minerals, Petroleum Products, Pulp and Paper, and wood pellets according to its website -- to a CSX mainline in Savannah.

Yay SWSat is on!

Rich I like your focus area idea and the name of your yard is fun. My own area ranges from Fredricksburg VA up to Providence RI. With a big emphasis on the New York City area. There is an anomaly in my interest in San Diego and southern CA because I lived there for 6 years as well. I was born and raised in Alexandria VA and went to college in Providence RI. I lived in NYC and then Grad school in San Diego. In the end I returned to NYC to have my family. I completely understand how your interest often grows from where you spend your time

This week I am posting a pic of my K line/ Lionel BNSF MP 15. When I lived in SanDiego CA my little art studio was towards the ocean end of Solana Valley across the street from the ex Santa Fe surf line up to LA. During the day the Trains were all Amtrak and Coaster commuters up to Oceanside. At night the BNSF ran thier occasional Freights usually around midnight so when I heard the train I knew it was time to pack in and head home.

I got this as a little reminder of those times. I liked the newer swoop black and orange over the green and orange scheme it replaced.

I was looking forward to extending birthday greetings to SWSAT today. But as per Rich Murnane's post, will wait until next Saturday.

Last October, I purchased an Atlas O Trainman model of New Haven Railroad ALCO RS-3 #531. The New Haven was an ALCO customer for its early Diesels and acquired 45 RS-3s between 1950 and 1952. The 1600 HP RS-3 was geared for a maximum 80 MPH and was used in freight and passenger service. All but two of the New Haven’s RS-3s lasted until it was merged into the Penn Central RR in 1969.

I really like this Atlas O model. The sounds and cruise control are excellent and I had it pulling short freight trains on my layout, trailed by an Atlas O New Haven NE-6 caboose. Unfortunately, I knocked it off the edge of the layout at the end of December and it sustained a broken pilot. It has been at Atlas O in New Jersey awaiting repairs ever since. I hope they have the part to fix it.

My new 3rd Rail/Sunset 0-6-0 switcher is a real looker but I can’t run it until I enlarge my layout. I need to go from 0-36 to 0-54 curves otherwise, the back corners of the cab hit the tender. This No. 1277 switcher and a few other fancy green boiler versions like it were used to put together the different Southern Pacific Daylight passenger trains. There is an awful lot of detail and one has to be careful touching these delicate brass models. All of the people responsible for creating this beautiful locomotive did a marvelous job. As always, a great threat this week.

Artyoung thought I might put this up here.

Been some talk about never any 403,0-6-0's,. I believe there was,. call me crazy. Some years ago I bought a 0-6-0 and 2203B tender in rough messy shape to fix up, very faintly was a 403 on the cab, they had postwar electric couplers and postwar trucks. I thought someone had renumbered the cab.

So, when I redid them numbered it as a 203. (runs great)403 numbered 203
