Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Switcher Saturday.   In this weekly thread we celebrate the smaller locomotives that do the big work of railroading.   All scales and gauges are welcome and of we usually have a heavy helping of 3 rail O gauge.

We have featured everything from steam to diesel to electric and even gas-powered on occasion.  We have seen real locomotives over 100 years old, and discussed brand new Switchers from Republic and Brookville.  In model form we have had the whole range from pre war Hornby to fresh out of the box mth, and more lionel than anyone can count.  And I say, bring it on!  You guys blow me away every week, and I wanted to say its awesome,  and thank you.

So I am still having fun with my new prize, ppl sw1500 from mth.  I hope you guys don't get tired of it too soon.  Today I had the opportunity to show it off at work and take some pictures.

Here we are at home on the FCC (Filing Cabinet Central)

Above are a few views by the real thing.  I wish these photos were better,  and I have a new appreciation on how hard these are to take. If the model looks fuzzy in the foreground,  please zoom in on the real thing!

And here's a little real world visualization of scale.  If you look closely you can see the model on the foot plate of the real thing.

And just for some more fun, here's the Switcher doing some work in the yard, in this case the backyard!

So, time for you good folks to show off.  Bring on videos,  vignettes,  stills, and stories.   Fire up your A5's and bring out the Baldwin's!

Have a great weekend everyone! 🙂🚂🚊

Happy SWSat!

Great pix of your new model and the prototype Mr. Z!
Tom- that bridge looks like it's always been there.
Strap- Nice train. I hope you get your RS-3 back soon.
Lee- Sharp RS-3 too!

This week my growing LIRR fleet is on display. All are from MTH, the SW8 and RS-3 are PS2, and, well, you all know about the RS-1 already.....

Happy Switcher Saturday. I hope you don`t get bored while i post pictures of mostly rural landscapes. I am already starting a new module in which to build a city area and then an industry. Then, when the paper mill and port are bought into operation, there will be a lot of work to be done with my switcher locomotives.

Johan

TALES OF THE DOCKSIDER

Good Saturday morning!  It’s been awhile since we’ve seen foreign power on the Worcester, MA rails, but today we have a visitor from the far North.

Canadian Pacific no. 4001 has stalled in front of the station due to an unknown malady.  Your Yardmaster sent out his most reliable engine - shop switcher X-8688 - and crew to retrieve 4001.  X-8688’s crew, unfamiliar with Canadian railroads, wondered if 4001 would be crewed by eskimos.  When they arrived they found 4001’s crew to be friendly and competent railroaders, just like their counterparts in the “South”.

Many great posts today.  JHZ, you “knocked yourself out”!  Johan, I’ll never get tired of seeing your layout.  I’m looking forward to seeing your city/industrial addition!

John

What great pictures everyone...jhz I really loved the comparison of your new 0- gauge model with the real thing, I really was surprised at the picture with the model on the footplate of the real thing.  I believe that sometimes we get so wrapped up in our 0 gauge world we forget, I know I do, how BIG the real things actually are!!  Lee I don't think I have seen you run the Reading RS-1 before, she is a very handsome model.  Strap Hanger and RSJB18 you Long Island guys are really expanding.  The new Alco's in the prototype liveries really look sharp and the layouts are looking good as well.  Johan / BAR GP7 like others have said, I as well never tire of looking at the scenery you produce, it compliments and enhances the trains for certain.  Looking forward to what you do with a cityscape and a port.  Steam Crazy - never tire of learning what that crew of the Docksider is up to week to week.

Well today, I thought I would show you what you might have had to play with, should you have been lucky enough to open the set box of Lionel "outfit" # 290 in 1926 or 1927.  Now nearly a century ago.  Even though the little person who opened that box is most likely passed on, I bet their thrill was no less than the one we might have experienced some 20 (for me) or 40 years later!!

Here is Lionel outfit #290 available in 1926-27 consisting of the #152 electric engine in dark green and the # 901 Gondola and #801 caboose.  As you can see, my #152 has had some play and had had her share of scratches and bumps, but believe it our not after nearly 100 years she still does run, even the headlight works (when I remember to put a bulb in it).  I don't run it much because repair parts and more importantly the skill of the repairman (me) are limited especially with one this old.

152 Electric 1926-27 and train

Well there you are, think about  a Christmas morning nearly 100 years ago.  Our imaginary child, likely amazed at this toy that could actually be controlled by them!  Most likely putting their (lead at the time) soldiers in that gondola at taking them to front.  I do sometimes just like to imagine what a thrill that must have been in those days.

Best wishes, enjoy your weekend

Don

Thanks Don I’ve ran it and my UP one several times but not nearly enough. That Switcher of your looks very tired thanks again for post this Model Railroad history

Superb photos today! Thanks to everyone for sharing. Please continue to keep the people of Ukraine in your thoughts and prayers. What a **** mess.

Reporter, Ali Velshi on MSNBC has been reporting live from the Ukraine-Hungary border every night speaking with refugees and watching them arrive and depart on electric-powered passenger trains from there. Rail is playing an absolutely key role in moving huge numbers of refugees to safety in other parts Europe.  So great to see.
